Welcome to Day 13 of our #Creatuanary 2024 journey, where we dive deep into making new homebrew D&D creatures! Today’s prompt takes us to the towering heights. It’s the ‘Mountain Troll‘ a foe excluded from 5e, but prominent in prior edition lore.
🏔️📖 Mountain Troll Lore & Legend 📖 🏔️
Mountain trolls are denizens of lofty peaks, are truly colossal and extraordinarily brutish. They stand on average at 17 feet tall making them as imposing as their true giant cousins. Their strong limbs allow them to climb surprisingly fast in their rocky homes. Combined with their acute sense of smell, they often hunt the foothills of their homes, detecting even the most hidden of prey.
Unlike some of their troll kin, their regeneration abilities are present but lacking in potency. While it couldn’t protect them from lethal blows or restore lost limbs, it works effectively against wounds. They also have the same aversion to harm inflicted by fire or acid.
Rarely found alone, these giants often asserted dominance over other creatures, such as ogres and smaller trolls. Their rule was marked by brutal authority. In group settings, mountain trolls are ruthless bullies, devouring any creature that dares to defy their orders. Fear and caution are foreign concepts to them.
