City of Brass: Overview of Lornedain The Secret Flame

ATTENTION SPOILERS AHEAD

One criticism of the City of Brass campaign book by Frog God Games is that you have to do a ton of reading to clearly understand the plot of the campaign. I am going to be posting a few blog posts to act as an online resource for DM’s to quickly understand what is going on so that they are able to run the adventure better. It’s a great book! I hope this helps folks thinking about running this adventure – Support Content Creators.

Chapter 3: Lornedain The Secret Flame – DM Overview

Lornedain: The Secret Flame is an adventure set in the small barony of Lornedain, plagued by a mysterious madness. Villagers, especially those who have seen too much or could be easily overlooked, are being captured by the baroness and her henchmen. These captives are taken to the dungeon beneath Lornedain Keep and later transported to the Burning Spire of Freegate or the City of Brass. The baroness, Aora Lornedain, and Giza, a devoted wizard, are believers in the Cult of the Burning One and seek to establish Burning Spires across the continent of Akados.

The players, who have been investigating the disappearances, uncover the cult’s activities, follow the trail of clues that will lead them to the city of Freegate to find a newly constructed Brazen Spire. Along the way, they come across the name “The Sand Dancer” in their search for answers. Family members of the missing individuals implore the players to pursue all leads and rescue the captives. However, their meddling has caught the attention of Sheik Mutastir, a powerful figure associated with the cult, who may send assassins after them.

In the climax of the adventure, the players confront Baroness Aora Lornedain, Giza the wizard, and Sir Hafbert, the loyal and cruel henchman. The outcome of this confrontation and the fate of the baroness and her minions are left to the Game Master’s discretion.

After the resolution of the conflict, members of the Lyreguard arrive in Lornedain to assume control of the keep and express gratitude to the players for their efforts. The ownership of the barony is transferred to the Suzerainty, and the land may be handed over to distant heirs. The players receive their well-deserved rewards.

The story continues in The Brazen Spire, where the players delve deeper into the machinations of the Cult of the Burning One, uncovering more about their sinister plans.
